๐Ÿฆ The Bittern ๐Ÿฆ

๐ŸฆThe Bittern ๐Ÿฆ

Kia orana readers ! Welcome back to my blog ! Today I’ll be doing a blog post about ๐Ÿฆ”The Bitter’’.

It was a bright sunny morning and we were running around like chickens. The family were on their way to the Taieri Plains (which is the place were Dad grew up). They were going to open a huge ceremony that was going to make their grandpa famous. Dad told about the story of their grandpa since liked hearing about Grandad’s past.

Grandad was a sheep farmer. He had some hill country also he had the swamp down by the river. In those days people thought it was useless land. It was really ugly in winter and grew raupo and rank grass in the summer. One day there were digger was frightened a bittern and Grandpa decided not to drain down the swamp.

After driving down the hill the family walked along a narrow path that ran between tall harakeke. Later on they founded people gathering together with a covered sign waiting for Dad to unravel it. Next DOC had a speech about the Taieri Plains and how Granda Henare Karetu worked very hard to keep the stamp.

Finally Dad revealed the sign that said Karetu Wetlands. Everyone looked at the sparkling water and the blades of harakeke weaving in the breeze.
